Madrid Protocol
In Turkey, which came into force from the date of 01.01.1999 the international trademark registration system is run by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office. Under the Madrid Protocol, trademark owners may apply for trademark registration in 91 countries which are Parties to the Protocol.

What are the basic conditions for applying for trademark registration under the Madrid Protocol?
The trademark to be filed must be registered or at the stage of application with the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.
The applicant must use the same trademark as the application.
Community Trade Mark (EUTM)
The EUTM, the Community Brand System, which enables a brand to be valid for all European Union countries with a single transaction, entered into force on 02.04.1996. With the trademark registration application made through this system, protection can be provided in 28 European Union countries.

National Application
For applications to be made on a country-by-country basis, the trademark is not required to be registered in its own country. The registration process and the cost of the applications are determined according to the conditions of each country.
An industrial design is protected only within the country of registration. Companies operating abroad should have their designs registered abroad, otherwise they may encounter with both material and moral losses.
Although there is no registration system in place all over the world, various ways can be followed in overseas industrial design registration procedures.
